The Mavic booth at Sea Otter Classic is filled to the brim with eye-catching gear and many (many!) custom bikes (more on those later). But once you get over the initial shock of all that eye-catching carbon and titanium, you could spy some unreleased, yet-to-be-ever-seen gear. One new product that really caught my eye were the new Boa-dial Mavic Cosmic Ultimate IV road shoes. 

Mavic Cosmic Ultimate IV road bike shoes 

This next-gen Cosmic Ultimate IV jumps from the III with all-new reinforced, woven upper construction and updated BOA Li2 dials. Mavic explained that the construction is a Matryx mix of Kevlar and Polyamid yarn, which Mavic claims provides the lowest-possible fiber elongation for the best power transfer.

New Super Stiff Carbon Sole

The new, very ventilated sole is made of Mavic (also?) Matryx carbon. Its “integrated lining weaving” construction and a 100/100 Mavic stiffness rating makes the new Mavic Cosmic Ultimate IV the French company’s stiffest road shoe to date.

Plus, that Matryx carbon weave offers a super slick and eye-catching appearance.

Vents for Hotness 

These aren’t “speed holes,” but cooler heads and feet usually prevail. Mavic’s Matryx upper weaves in jacquard-venting – the variegated weaving pattern leaves openings between alternating fibers to allow for extra airflow without compromising the material’s structural performance. Mavic says this enables them to locate strategically-positioned openings to optimize cooling, and also reduces the need for adhesives, further enhancing ventilation.
