  Looking at their website they still don’t have pedal axles as a spare part, when I had an issue with my alloy flats they sent me a complete new pair of pedals, fantastic service but I thought they would’ve sorted out spares by now.

  What is the actual “benefit of a larger platform” ? Especially if it’s thin, surely it doesn’t do anything but look good?! I use the spd platforms myself (XT) but my foot is never in contact with the platform part.

  There Is about 4mm difference in the thickness of these and any old Shimano pedal.

  I fail to see 2mm having a noticeable affect on pedal strikes.

  Fair enough but I struggle to see why you’d pay double the cost of the XT equivalent other than them being a wee bit thinner which is kind of ‘princess and the pea’ stuff when it comes to clips (IMO)…

  What is the actual “benefit of a larger platform” ? Especially if it’s thin, surely it doesn’t do anything but look good?! I use the spd platforms myself (XT) but my foot is never in contact with the platform part.

  Comes more down to the shoe really, if I’m wearing my XC/Gravel shoes, there’s no benefit, if I’m wearing my 5-10 Kestrels, the sole makes contact with my old DX SPD’s cage/platform bit and there’s a bit more support/grip there beyond the clip…

  Current ‘Trail’ type SPDs seem to be a bit of a halfway house, there’s still some platform but I’m not sure the same level of support it there as the old chonky platform SPDs, which seem to have all but vanished from the shimano line..

  At least they are SPD compatible. After a couple of years with a Hope pedal on my ‘nice’ bike, I’m reverting to Shimano on that so I can use a variety of shoes.

  100% this – never found any spd better than or even at the same level as Shimano. Generally it’s been a performance price to pay for something new and sparkly on the bike. When you can pick up some xt trails for less than half the price and xtr trails for 2/3rds no amount of anodising will hide the fact that they they had better perform better.

  I might be of a minority, but I do wish that some of these uberexpensive blingy bike jewellery manufacturers would provide an option on clipless type.

  I can’t use SPD’s because the minimal float knackers my knee after one injury a physio who mtb’d asked if I’d changed back to SPD’s recently before I’d mentioned it) whereas Time’s ATAC pedals have worked perfectly for me for years.

  While I know Time have a few good, more expensive pedals I would love to treat one of my bikes to some really fancy looking ones, just because, but there doesn’t seem to be much hope for that.

  The Nukeproof Horizon CL and CS are miles better than Shimano IMO.

  All the parts are replaceable. Or at least they were until the great collapse of 2024.

  I can’t use SPD’s because the minimal float knackers my knee after one injury a physio who mtb’d asked if I’d changed back to SPD’s recently before I’d mentioned it) whereas Time’s ATAC pedals have worked perfectly for me for years.

  This idea has seemed a bit strange to me since trying Time. With SPD the float is more or less free moving up to the point the cleat hits the inside of the mechanism to disengage. With Crank Brothers or Time there may be more float overall before release but the spring tension resists using that float by trying to keep the cleat straight in line, increasing the further out it gets. This resistance creates a perpetual twisting force on the knees rather than letting them do their own thing and is a cause of knee problems for me.

  I thought OneUp used to offer a degree of value for money. Now they seem to be charging a premium instead. Complete with a wider stance/q factor that is another cause of knee issues for me.

  they are rather lovely looking things. seems a shame to put them on a bike because after about two rides they’ll be chipped to all hell and looking shit.

  I think I’ll stick with our trusty Shimano DXs and if they die the wife and I will probably switch to Hope (that’s if they don’t outlast us).

  I had a chat with one of their guys a couple of years back when they warrantied the outer tube of my dropper post (because the threads were shot) and he said they were considering making all replacement parts available. I’m guessing they’ve decided it wouldn’t pay.

  … and partly because of this. The platform with pins makes a big difference.

  In the conditions I ride in the shimano are often too slippy to get a positive connection, especially when the cleats are disappearing in mud. With the Nukeproof (and I reckon the Oneup will be similar) you can get a good grip.

  The only pair I had were battered well before any of the Nukeproof i’ve had.

  One up are claiming theirs died make contact unlike other brands. Detail is on the product page.

  I thought clipless referred to no longer having toe clips as in toe clips and straps therfore there is  nothing wrong with clip less.
