Jordan’s tourism sector revenue grew by 88.4% in Q1 2023 compared to the same period last year, reaching US$1.671 billion due to a sharp increase in the number of visitors.

The country has experienced unparalleled growth in the number of tourists visiting the country. More than 1.47 million people travelled to Jordan during the first quarter of 2023.

This figure is a 90.7% increase compared to the 774.111 tourists who visited the country during the same period last year.

This record tally surpasses visits in the first quarter of 2019, which at the time was dubbed the “golden year” in Jordanian tourism, when Jordan welcomed 1.146 million tourists, totaling 966.483 overnight stays in the country.

According to the latest data, tourism revenue in March grew by 49% compared to March 2022, to a total of US$614.7 million.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities’ latest monthly bulletin indicated there was an 80.9% rise in the number of overnight tourists, surging to 1.204 million during this quarter compared to 665.779 a year earlier.

Jordan has well-known tourist landmarks and other attractions, including the “Golden Triangle”, which encompasses Petra, Wadi Rum, Aqaba and the Dead Sea, the Roman Theatre in Amman and Mount Nebo, as well as the Ajloun Castle, Jerash, site of the baptism of Jesus Christ, and the Kerak Castle.
