First Look: KOM Cycling Unveils Quick Release Light 1000 and 350 Compact Headlights

KOM Cycling just dropped its latest innovation in bright bike lighting, and if you’re the kind of rider who swaps bikes like most people change socks — this one is for you. Meet the Quick Release Light 1000 and Quick Release Light 350 — two compact, high-powered solutions designed for easy-on, easy-off action without skimping performance.

The KOM 1000 throws out a hefty 1000 lumens (duh!), ensuring you’re not just seen, but practically lighting up the road ahead. Built to take on all conditions, it features multiple lighting modes, a solid rechargeable battery, and a waterproof design.

The standout feature? A hinge-style adjustment system that lets you dial in the perfect beam angle. That 30° angle adjustment ensures you can see potholes and late-night creatures quickly.

And, of course, the real magic is that KOM’s quick-release mount makes popping this light on and off your bars as effortless as flipping your bike computer on. This is where both KOM QR models really shine (groan). Both models work well with Garmin and Wahoo mounts, meaning less cockpit clutter and more streamlined setups. The lights mount on top of your standard GPS mount, then your GPS locks into place on top of the headlight. Or for out-front mounts with 1/4-turn interfaces top & bottom, you can put the GPS on top and light down below.

Do you need something smaller for daytime safety or city cruising?

At less than half the weight, the Quick Release Light 350 still packs 350 lumens into a sleek, lightweight unit with long runtimes. It gets the same quick-release treatment as its bigger sibling, so you won’t have to fiddle with annoying straps or rubber mounts. It just opts out of the up/down angle adjustability in the interest of simplicity.

The Quick Release Light 1000 is a solid choice for night rides, especially with that adjustable hinge — it’s a thoughtful touch many lights lack. The beam pattern is more of a “to be seen” rather than a wide “to see.” It would be a great addition to a headlamp if you do some late-day trail exploring on the commuter bike.

It’s super easy to install, doesn’t add much (166g) to the front end, and looks tidy. I’ve yet to run out of charge on the QR 1000, but my pure nighttime riding is limited. I usually push the meter with dusk and “make it home safe” darkness. The KOM QR 1000 performed outstandingly in these conditions.

We used the separate KOM CM06 QR mount to hang both lights & GPS devices in front of the bar for most riding, which costs $30 extra. It lets you put a Garmin or Wahoo computer on top and the KOM QR light underneath. It also comes with a GoPro adapter if you want to swap that light for an action cam sometimes.

The KOM QR1000 Light also functions as an excellent daytime running light and packs a seriously eye-catching zap in the daytime flash mode. Most of the time, I forget it was on my bars, and I soaked it on a rainy ride with zero issues or water ingress. My only gripe is the safety strap. It’s a non-stretchable lace material that holds the light if the carrier snaps. But I would rather see an elastic (like most headunit straps) tether that would be easier to attach and secure that light. The current tether doesn’t match the sleekness of the light design and seems a bit out of place.

The KOM Quick Release 350 is a great grab-and-go option for anyone who wants an extra layer of visibility without bulk. The quick-release system is the real star here, making these lights a no-brainer for multi-bike riders or anyone who hates fumbling with mounts.

For the QR 350, I used it directly on my Garmin computer mount and then mounted my Garmin over it. The light added 10mm of stack to the Garmin mount, but I had peace of mind when on my road bike. It’s a simple and easy add-on that costs only $60 and offers nice visibility benefits.
