Dominican tourism continues to strengthen its recovery process, reaching record figures with the arrival of almost three million visitors in the first five months of the year.

The Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, David Collado, announced that in May the arrival record was broken again with the visit of 561,323 tourists.

"That means that we recorded a growth of 11 percent over May 2018 figures, six more than in 2019 and we surpassed the figures of May last year by 44 percent," said the official in his now traditional monthly press conference where the results of the Dominican tourism performance are shown to the public.

The official said that the recovery and growth of tourism is such that in the last twelve months the country received 6,459,738 non-resident visitors. He mentioned that in May the country reached a historic number of 561,323 non-resident visitors.

"453,371 of those who arrived in May were foreigners, which represents 2% more than in 2019 and 4% more than during the same month in 2018," reported Minister Collado.

May also saw growth in cruise arrivals reaching 82,199 travelers, 3% more than during the same month in 2019.
