The new Gen 5 Team Machine is BMC’s response to the escalating demands of high-speed, high-altitude racing (especially in France around July). Developed with aerodynamic cues from the Teammachine R01 and wrapped in the DNA of a purebred climber, the new SLR01 shaves grams and sharpens handling without sacrificing stiffness or compliance.

BMC is calling this bike the one that “redefines gravity” because the bike is so light when compared to the previous model. 

How’d it get so light? A revised carbon layup, optimized tube profiles, and leaner finishing details (yes, even the decals) help trim 222g from the previous version. The frameset is now 16% lighter (painted, size 54), and still delivers the explosive stiffness and race-winning geometry the Teammachine is known for.

Primed For the Climb

From the sharp switchbacks of the Dolomites to the wind-whipped cols of the Pyrenees, the Gen 5 SLR 01 is designed for riders who live to go uphill—and descend fast. With improved frontal aerodynamics borrowed from the R01, an evolved seatpost, and a re-engineered fork, this climber is now more aero-efficient without sacrificing the comfort needed to survive long days in the mountains.

Tuned Compliance – ICS Cockpit – 32mm Clearance

At a claimed 6.6kg (approximately 14.5 lbs.) complete (for the ONE and TWO models), the new SLR 01 looks pretty good. Clearance for 32mm measured tires brings it up to date with modern race expectations, and internal routing via the ICS cockpit keeps things as clean as they are fast.

The bike retains the race-proven geometry of the R 01, tuned for razor-sharp responsiveness and confident descending. BMC’s Tuned Compliance Concept (TCC) helps absorb chatter through its compliant seatpost and carefully layered carbon construction, allowing the frame to stay planted without dulling the road feel.

Integration and Intelligence

BMC claims every inch of the Gen 5 Teammachine SLR 01 is built for purpose. The latest ICS cockpit tucks cables out of the wind, while BMC’s Impec Lab worked alongside aerodynamicists in CFD and wind tunnel tests to refine every tube transition.

This is a climber’s bike that finally feels like more than a featherweight. It’s smart, it’s sculpted, and it’s built to perform from the first attack to the final summit.
