Battaglin Matera Fillet Brazes Italian Steel Gravel Bike Named After Italy’s Oldest City
Steel bike builder Officina Battaglin has an all-new, no-nonsense made-in-Italy Matera gravel bike in their line-up, mixing classic and modern tech to “tackle even the most challenging gravel terrain”. Fillet-brazed from light Columbus Spirit HSS steel, Battaglin give the new Matera a greatest-hits of modern gravel tech: big 50mm tire clearance, internal routing, and a UDH, for example.
Plus, each bike is finished-to-order for the buyer, so you get to pick the paint for a custom look for your new Italian-made gravel bike…
Officina Battaglin Matera modern Italian steel gravel bike
Named and inspired by the oldest city in Italy – claiming continuous settlement for something like 12,000 years – Battaglin created the Matera to take on any surface. Campy could say they had been making drivetrains since before there were paved roads. Well, Matera could say they’ve been inhabited since before gravel roads or even wheels. (That happened 4-5 millennia BC, according to Wikipedia).

“There’s an almost philosophical connection between Matera’s ancient stone dwellings, etched directly into the limestone, and a steel frame handmade in Italy. Just as Matera has withstood the test of time, handcrafted steel frames have maintained their special place in cycling despite newer materials coming and going. We’ve created a bike that connects riders to the terrain in the same way Matera’s ancient structures connect to the landscape – through harmony, not domination.”
